Our experience with leashes has been traumatic. A broken leash swivel is what led to Rocky’s injury, so we discovered in dramatic fashion the importance of leash design. While I will not call out the exact leash that broke, I will say it was a padded, large dog training leash that was purchased from big box retailer that often calls itself “super”. Needless to say, we have changed our track and now only buy after researching online and reading reviews. There are 3 leashes we currently use the Taglory Rope Dog Leash, Remington Polyester Reflective Dog Leash (lime color) and The Company of Animals Halti Training Lead. We use each leash for different purposes.
The Remmington Reflective leash is our everyday walking leash. I really like that it is highly visible at night and as we purchased the lime color, it is very easy to find amongst our dog supplies. This leash is also on the low end of the price range, is pretty well built, and can be found on Chewy.com. As it is a strap leash, it is not very comfortable for training and short length usage.
The Taglory Rope Leash is primarily our training leash. It is well built, has a very soft handle and with the round shape it is more comfortable to hold on the rope portion if I keep rocky on a “short leash”. The only downsides with this leash so far have been that there is a padded piece that covers where the leash is looped around the carabiner clip that sometimes slides up the rope and is a bit unsightly.
Finally, we use The Company of Animals Halti Training Lead for exercising with our dog. Since it has connectors on both sides and multiple loops to connect to it, it is very versatile. The leash is also well padded. We often attach both clips to the dog harness to mitigate pulling. It also conforms well to various sizes if you want to attach or wrap around yourself to keep hands free while jogging. As this leash can be customized for many different applications it gets allot of use despite having 2 other types of leashes.
